Artist Statement: Artist Alice Mullins

I see my images as a form of storytelling. An image may be "telling " about someones wonderful pet, or attempting to capture a moment in nature with a wild animal. ..... there is a beauty and an essence that I hope I am sharing with the viewer. I believe that all animals have lessons or messages for us, that we can apply to our own lives...This information can come from their habits, or characteristics, or their behaviors. My hope is that my vision and interpretation of each animal is a connection with the essence and the personality of each animal. It is often found in their eyes or the gestures and movements or the color and line....... or maybe in the relationship of two animals together....
My ceremonial art, those pieces which I consider specifically based in Native American influences and storys and legends, is meant to be an honoring of the animal's being and their passing and their story or lesson....I like to think that I am helping give a new heartbeat to that animal. My work is done with total respect for each animal and its gifts.
