How The Loon Got It's Necklace- CUSTOM ITEM

How The Loon Got It's Necklace- CUSTOM ITEM

$1,250.00

This is a custom piece already in a private collection, however i can paint a spirit path for you using different stories or different interpretations of the same story or legend or spirit animal. It will take me several weeks to complete a hide  plus shipping  time. All embellishments will be up to me unless   ther eis something special required. No two spirit paths will ever be the same. Please see the other spirit paths in the  category "in the private collection" for more ideas.

This full deer skin hide  has been painted with my interpretation of the Native American story about how the loon received its necklace. The hide is black and embellished with horse hair and beads.

The story tells of the arrogance of man, thinking he can acheive everything an animal can . In his attempt to fly like the birds, man falls into the water and the tree roots  hold the man down by his long hair (  because of this arrogance) .  Meanwhile , The Great Spirit had created a  "laugh" to keep him company.  The other animals made fun of the silly sounds  and the laugh's eyes turned red  from embarrassment . However,  when no animal would go to the man's rescue  the "laugh" flew down and dove into the water and released the grip on man's hair.   The Great Sririt said that he had given all of the colors away to the other animals  but he reached into the heavens and grabbed handfuls of stars and scattered them on the  loons back.

If you look closely you can see the  red outline of the hands of The Great Spirit at the top pf the hide and the stars on the loon's back.
